The Problem
Many undergraduate and recently graduated students struggle with job searching. Through conversations with these individuals, it became clear that they often feel confused and frustrated during this process. They received minimal guidance from their schools, leaving them to conduct extensive research on their own to understand what steps to take before, during, and after applying for jobs. Many are unsure where or how to begin their job search, and despite applying to over 50 positions, they still struggle to secure interviews. The overwhelming amount of scattered information further complicates their job hunting experience.
Solution
Provide clear guidance
AI assistant as a career councilor to go through step-by-step of creating effective resume and interview preparation
Provide real-time assistance
Users can ask the assistant questions anytime
Tailor resume/interview
Enhance readability & positive impression
Emphasize key skills & experience based on the job
Provides keywords & answers that user prepared prior the mock interview
Gives the user control to hide the hints as they get more confident
Gives users feedback for each question at the end of the mock interview
Research
The company had a high fidelity prototype prior to Jomud, but the goal of the platform was somewhat ambiguous, resulting in its resemblance to a generic job search platform. Given this lack of clear product direction, I initiated a comprehensive phase of problem analysis and user research.

The Gap
User Interviews
According to my interviewees, increased guidance in the job search process would significantly simplify the process of finding employment. That includes resume building, interview preparation, etc.
I’ve asked them a few questions to discover trends on what they struggle with in their job-finding experience.
Research Questions:
1. What was the most difficult part when you job search? why?
2. What do you think could help your job search experience easier? Why?
3. How did you find resources and what resources did you use to help you write resumes/prepare for interviews?
Main Insights
Most of the interviewees expressed the belief that comprehensive guidance throughout the entire job search process would be immensely beneficial. Plus, they emphasized the convenience of having verified resources and information centralized in a single, accessible location.
The persistent challenge arising from the lack of guidance emphasizes a significant pain point in the job hunting experience for students and graduates. It serves as a clear indicator of the need for effective solutions that can provide guidance and support them to find their dream job.
Ideating
We wanted to put a strong emphasis on delivering a comprehensive guidance to our target users. So, we proposed the development of a student/graduate-focused AI job search platform.
This platform would serve our target users by providing essential functions, including the ability to organize resumes in different positions, and facilitating the tailoring of their resumes and interviews to specific job posts through a user-friendly builder.
User Journey Map
Changes in Design
Navigation Bar
updated on logo and colour
removed the links in the bar & put them in a side bar instead
overall cleaner & less overwhelming
Side Bar
At first, we…
changed and aligned with the new font
changed the colour for aesthetics
brought all functions into one place
In our third design, we…
Decided to go back to a simplistic design, focusing on our main functions
Resume Builder
reorganized the layout of input fields, allowing users to drag and drop within the sections
instead of having users to just click ‘Enhance’ buttons, we utilize AI to detect areas of improvement within their resume & provide suggestions right away
Testing
We are currently in the process of conducting user testing, employing a two-group approach. The first group involves moderated testing, consisting of 10 carefully selected individuals who precisely match our target audience criteria.
In this moderated setting, we will conduct in-depth observations as these participants interact with our prototype. Concurrently, we have an unmoderated group comprising 20-30 individuals from our target audience. We will gather feedback via a survey, enabling us to efficiently collect quantitative insights on the user experience.

Reflection & Things I'd Do Ongoing
1. Usability Tests: The Path to Solutions
Don't get caught up in overanalyzing a problem. Conducting extensive research sometimes won't provide the solutions we need. Instead, it's during usability tests that we often uncover the answers.
2. Balancing Innovation with Core Objectives
The platform boasts an array of functions, which sometimes leads to ideas that may not align with our core product goals. It's imperative to stay focused on the platform's primary objectives and ensure that my thinking revolves around those goals. While many ideas may be valuable, it's important to recognize that not every good idea can be integrated.
3. Ensuring Effective Communication
Particularly within our design team and with our development team. Given the close collaboration between the two teams, it is crucial that we establish and maintain clear communication to foster the development of the product. Effective communication not only helps us align our efforts but also enables us to address design and development challenges collaboratively.
5. User Feedback in Our Iterative Design Process
Continuously gathering feedback from our users and using it to enhance our design is a key aspect of our iterative design process.
